In this workshop we will do many simple experiments together, both in containers and in open water, arranged to reveal water’s capacity to form itself in movement. This behaviour of water (and other fluids) can be seen to be life-like, but is also intriguing and enigmatic. We will hold back from theorising as much as possible and let the wondering guide us. Observing also the structure of seashells and other natural forms, can we see directly any principles at work which relate the forms of flow to the way living organisms form themselves.
Simon Charter MEd, has many years of experience in working with water in the environment especially with the Flowform sculptures originating with John Wilkes. This work has been for practical and aesthetic purposes. He is joint chairman of the International Flowform Association, and is UK co-ordinator of the Natural Science Section of the Anthroposophical Society. He teaches clay modelling, projective geometry and has run many experiential workshops with water. He is inspired by the work of Theodor Schwenk and Lawrence Edwards especially.
